Amazon Biosphere

If you have recently been downtown on 6th Avenue, it is quite possible that you have seen some sort of dome being built. What is it? A bird? A plane? Nope, it’s Amazon’s newest project. Their new work Biospheres are projected to be completed by 2018. The Biospheres will be something you’ve never seen before. They will contain more than 3,000 different plant species from around the world and the temperature will be regulated to match a cloud forest. The plans also include 40-50 trees in the building, some so large they will be craned in.

If having their own forest isn’t unique enough, Amazon employees will be meeting in what they are calling “Treehouses”, not your typical conference room. Mr. Alberda, the Biosphere’s architect, states that Amazon said to “Make this Fun.” They want the Biospheres to be an inspiring and creative place to come to work. The spheres will only be accessible to Amazon employees at first, but they may hold tours for the public in the future which is great since they hope that the Biosphere’s will be as iconic as the Space Needle for Seattle newcomers to come and visit.
